Fillings are materials used to help repair damage caused by decay, or injury. Fillings help to restore function and to prevent tooth loss if a cavity is left for too long. There are different types of materials available and the dentists of Smithville Dental Centre can help pick the best option for you.
Braces are small brackets that are temporarily adhered to the tooth to aid with the alignment of teeth and help to correct bite-related problems i.e.: underbite, or overbite. Braces straighten teeth over time by exerting steady pressure on the teeth.
There are many ways for adults to whiten their teeth. At Smithville Dental Centre we offer a take home kit that is custom made with trays that fit perfectly. The trays are worn for a specific amount of time with a take home whitening gel that helps to lighten up teeth that have become darker for a variety of reasons, for example smoking, red wine, tea and coffee, etc.
Bridges and Implants
Bridges and Implants are two great ways to replace a missing tooth or in some cases teeth. Bridges are used to “bridge an open space” between teeth. The bridge consists of two crowns on the anchoring teeth along with the false tooth in the centre. A dental implant is an artificial root and crown that are placed to restore a single tooth.
Crowns and Caps
Crowns are what most people refer to as “caps”. They are a lab-made restoration that fully covers the crown of the tooth to help protect a damaged, cracked or very heavily restored tooth..
A root canal is a dental procedure used to help preserve an infected and abscessed tooth or to help a tooth that has a crack or is heavily decayed. The dentist carefully cleans and shapes the tooth so they can then fill it with a material that helps to preserve the tooth.
Complete and partial dentures are removable prostheses that are used to replace teeth. Complete dentures are made of acrylic with plastic teeth to replace a full arch of missing teeth. Partial dentures are made of acrylic and medical grade metal framework used to replace some missing teeth and utilizes your existing natural teeth for support.
Nitrous oxide (N20) is commonly called "laughing gas." It reduces anxiety during dental procedures. Nitrous oxide is a colorless gas with a pleasant taste and odor. People first inhale 100% oxygen through a soft nosepiece or mask. Then, nitrous oxide is slowly mixed in with the oxygen. Nitrous oxide usually starts to work in less than five minutes. Your dentist will adjust the mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen to a level to ensure your comfort. Nitrous oxide does not put you to sleep. You can still respond to your dentist's requests and answer questions. Once the procedure is complete the “laughing gas” is completely reversible. Nitrous oxide is safe for children.
